The regular village Coche 1999 was one of the most glorious wines of the evening. We’d been due to compare it with Lafon’s Clos de la Barre 1999 but it was spoilt by the burgundian scourge of premature oxidation so we tasted a Lafon village Meursault 1998 instead that was a little stolid by comparison. And of the two 1996 village Meursaults, the Coche was much livelier, the Lafon flat and rather lacking fruit, suggesting a hint of oxidation. The white burgundy village of Meursault is home to an increasing number of brilliant vignerons, but the two most famous names are Coche-Dury and Comtes Lafon.
Expect it to put on weight with some time in bottle. I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with the rest of the 2018 Coche-Dury portfolio in the near future. It could be said that Coche, unwittingly I would surmise, instigated the worldwide trend towards the reductive ‘struck match’ flavours in white wines. The 2017 Meursault wine cellars near melbourne Village is a brilliant young wine, unwinding in the glass with notes of crisp Anjou pear, green apple, dried white flowers, toasted sesame and hazelnuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and elegantly satiny, with racy acids, discrete structuring dry extract, and a long, elegantly chalky finish.

NB. This criterion is measured at wine level, as is the brand category rating. The 2017 Auxey-Duresses is a terrific bottle in the making, unwinding in the glass with a deep bouquet of dark wild berries, woodsmoke, incense and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and nicely concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids. This vintage has not only stood the test of time but has also grown in acclaim, making it a sought-after bottle for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
The 2015 Meursault Village is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, white flowers, honeycomb and hazelnut cream. The Comtes Lafon domaine, based in particularly extensive cellars attached to one of the village’s grandest houses, was built up astutely a century and more ago. It boasts well over three hectares of premier cru vineyard as well a precious slice of white burgundy’s crème de le crème grand cru Le Montrachet. Lafon Montrachet sells for many hundreds of pounds a bottle. At Rekolt, we understand the passion and precision that goes into collecting such prestigious wines. That's why we offer specialized services like professional cellar storage to ensure that your investment is preserved under optimal conditions until you decide it's the perfect time to enjoy or resell your bottles.
Restrained and distinctly cool aromas include a plethora of floral nuances that add elegance to the white orchard fruit, citrus and soft hazelnut wisps. This is a superb Meursault villages and very much built-to-age, indeed it's absolutely going to need it. An icon in the village of Meursault, Domaine Coche-Dury is in its 4th generation of viticulturists with Raphael Coche and his wife Charline now at the helm. They're following in the tradition of his father, Jean-Francois, and the previous generations, treating this land with reverence and skill. The 2018 is one of the rarest wines, and you'll find an impeccable array of character and opulence in this stunning Chardonnay.
A slightly riper and darker fruited nose is comprised by notes of cassis, black cherry and subtle spice and earth nuances. Here too there is excellent richness to the finer if not quite as dense flavors that are shaped by moderately firm tannins on the complex and sneaky long finish. The 2018 Meursault Village Rouge offers copious aromas of red cherry and blueberry fruit, cranberry jus and touches of rose petal.
